A Framework for Good Governance
Good Governance is hard. For starters - what exactly does it look like and how do you do it? We don’t have all of the answers. But we do have a hypothesis about the conditions that, if cultivated, make Good Governance more likely.
Our Framework for Good Governance offers a starting point for organisations interested in reflecting on what it takes to govern well. Fill in your details below to download a copy of the Framework, or read on to find out more about it and understand how you might use this in your organisation
About the Framework
This Framework is not intended to be mutually exclusive or comprehensively exhaustive. Reducing a complex system like governance to independent parts is folly. Rather, these are overlapping and interconnected conditions that, together, are the foundation for Good Governance.
For each condition, you are invited to look at your organisation and reflect on:
What are our principles? What do we believe?
What are our practices? What do we actually do?
Using the Framework
The simplest, and often best, way to start using the Framework is to ask ‘how are we doing?’ for each condition. This could be done via survey, or by bringing a group together for a workshop. Ideally, you’d use a combination of both.
Gather board members, and senior staff members that work with the board, and ask them to rate (on a scale of 1-10) how they would score the organisation on each element. As a follow-up, you could ask ‘why not lower?’ to surface what you are doing well and ‘why not higher?’ to understand what could be better.
Having collected this information, it’s time to get start the harder work - identifying what to do next. If you would like help facilitating a session like this with your board, then we can help. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
